All About Same Day Crowns

A crown, also known as a cap, is a cover placed over a tooth that has been damaged by decay, broken, treated with a root canal, stained, or misshapen. A crown looks and feels like a natural tooth and helps restore the strength and function of the affected tooth. CEREC same day crowns are made without needing impressions. We will design, create, and permanently bond your crown all in one visit. No temporary crowns required!

What Are the Advantages of Same Day Crowns?

Before new technology was available, getting a crown required two or three appointments and a temporary crown, which could be uncomfortable. Thanks to modern techniques and equipment, getting your crown is now easier and faster than ever.

Same day crowns offer these benefits:
  • No messy impressions. We use a comfortable and accurate digital 3D scan.
  • Complete treatment in as little as one visit.
  • Less drilling, which helps preserve more of your natural tooth structure.

Same Day Crown Treatment

Examining and Preparing the Tooth

During your appointment, we will carefully examine your tooth. If the tooth has decay, we will remove the damaged areas and clean it. For teeth with stress fractures, a crown will help protect the tooth from breaking along those fractures. Next, we will shape your tooth so the crown fits comfortably.

Your Crown Custom Made On Site

Once your tooth is prepared, we’ll use a 3D scanner to take a highly accurate digital scan. This scan is used to create a digital model of your new crown. Your porcelain crown is made right in the office while you wait.

Placement and Polish

Once your new crown is ready, it will be bonded or cemented in place. No second appointment or temporary crown is needed. The dentist will make any final adjustments to ensure a perfect fit. After a quick polish, your new crown is ready to go!

The Cost of Same Day Crowns in Brampton

The cost of a dental crown can vary from patient to patient. With typical insurance, the out of pocket cost for a single crown averages between $200 and $600+. Without insurance, you can expect to pay around $800 to $1,200 or more. While a dental crown may seem like a big decision, it is often an easy one to make when you think about restoring your tooth and preventing more complex procedures later.

What Goes Into Determining the Cost of a Crown?

The cost of a crown depends on several factors, such as:

  • The type of crown needed.
  • The location and complexity of the procedure.
  • The number of crowns required.
  • Combining crowns with other dental appliances, like bridges.
  • The supplies and equipment needed for your treatment.

Remember, no dental practice can provide an accurate quote over the phone. Your needs are unique, so it’s important to speak with a dentist and undergo an oral exam to get an accurate quote. If you have dental insurance, we can help you get a quote to submit to your insurer, so you can determine your out of pocket costs.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you need a crown after a root canal depends on the tooth’s location. Teeth at the back of the mouth, such as molars and premolars, are used more for chewing and generally require crowns. Incisors and canines, which are not used for chewing, may not always require crowns.

One key difference between crowns and fillings is that crowns are more durable for teeth with large biting surfaces. Repeated pressure from chewing or clenching can cause fillings on molars to chip or come loose. A crown, being a single, unbroken surface from gumline to gumline, is designed to handle much more force over a longer period.

Dental crowns serve two important purposes. First, they fully restore the function of your tooth, allowing you to chew and bite without pain or discomfort. Second, they are designed to blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth. They are colour matched and shaped to fit with your smile. In fact, some people forget which tooth is the crown!

A dental post is a medical grade post that may be cemented into a prepared root canal to provide extra support for a crown. It is not the same as a dental implant, which is surgically placed in the jawbone. Posts are used when there is not enough healthy tooth structure left to hold the crown securely.

Getting a crown is generally similar to getting a filling. We take extra care to numb the area and ensure that you feel no pain during the procedure. Afterward, you may feel some sensitivity or soreness in the gums surrounding the tooth, but this is usually temporary. If you feel anxious, let us know, and we’ll make sure to make your visit as comfortable as possible.

With proper care, dental crowns can last up to 15 years. If maintained well, they can last between 25 and 30 years.

Caring for your crown is simple and similar to caring for your natural teeth. Brush and floss regularly to keep both your crown and the gums around it healthy. Routine cleanings and checkups are essential for maintaining your oral health.

Ray Lawson Family Dental truly sets the standard for what a great patient experience should feel like. From the moment you walk in, the environment is cool, calm, and beautifully maintained, which already makes a big difference for anyone who might feel nervous about a dental visit. Manmohan and Binder are incredibly kind and helpful at the front desk. They are always welcoming, openly communicative on the phone, and genuinely take the time to listen and help find times that will work. You never feel rushed or dismissed when speaking with them. The entire team comes across as highly experienced and confident in what they do. Dr. Navreen and Dr. Gurm are especially wonderful with patients. They consistently check in during procedures to make sure patients are comfortable, ask if anything hurts, and offer reassurance along the way. Their explanations are clear, and they always make sure patients know what to expect next and what to watch for after treatment. It is also really heartwarming to see how patient and encouraging they are with kids, even offering breaks and putting on children’s songs on the TV to help them feel more relaxed. Harbinder and Varinder as the dental assistants also work so seamlessly with the dentists. They are always in sync, anticipating what is needed and keeping everything running smoothly, which makes the whole experience feel very efficient. The hygienist, Haseera, is also fantastic, very gentle, thorough, and kind, which makes cleanings feel comfortable and stress free. Overall, you can tell that everyone in this office genuinely care about the people they treat, and I would absolutely recommend this practice to anyone looking for a dental office that combines expertise with compassion.
